Empower Charleston Showcase: Support LLP
Lowcountry Literacy Project is honored to have been selected by Empower Charleston as one of six local nonprofits to participate in its 2026 Showcase. This opportunity will put LLP’s work in front of a community of engaged philanthropists who are committed to investing in solutions that can create meaningful, lasting change in the Lowcountry.
At the Showcase, LLP will take the stage to share our vision, demonstrate the impact of investing in teachers, and invite the Empower community to help us expand access to evidence-based literacy instruction across our region. Through Empower’s unique co-investing model, members will have the opportunity to direct funding toward LLP and help us reach more educators, schools, and ultimately, more children.
Charleston’s Literacy Breakfast: Coming in 2027
We are honored to welcome Kareem Weaver as our keynote speaker. A nationally recognized literacy leader and featured educator in the acclaimed documentary The Right to Read, Kareem has become one of the country’s leading voices for equitable, evidence-based reading instruction.
Kareem will return to his home state as we highlight what is working right here in the Lowcountry, share what is possible when we invest in teachers, and inspire a community to believe that every child can learn to read.
The morning will also rally our community around a clear goal: doubling LLP’s Summer Scholarship Initiative in 2027. Funds raised through Charleston’s Literacy Breakfast will provide scholarships for educators to access rigorous literacy training and the coaching needed to bring that knowledge back to their classrooms, extending the impact of every gift to students for years to come

LLP Honors Awards: Coming Soon!
LLP Honors will bring together trained educators, school leaders, partners, and supporters for an evening recognizing excellence, commitment, growth, and impact.
It is our opportunity to celebrate the teachers who have invested extraordinary time in learning how children learn to read, and who carry that knowledge into classrooms every day.
